Shiressa Johnson’s MBA journey at USC Marshall is a testament to the power of commitment, community, and personal determination. Graduating in 2024, Johnson didn’t just complete her degree; she excelled, becoming the chosen speaker at the commencement ceremony—an honor reserved for only one graduate student annually.
Before her MBA, Johnson’s resolve was continually tested. From her first job application experiences to challenging roles in Information Security and banking, she carried the empowering words of her grandmother, urging her to break barriers and question, “Why not me?”
At Marshall, Johnson thrived, participating in various leadership and community programs, and co-authoring a book titled Against All Odds with motivational speaker Lisa Nichols. Her academic life was complemented by a rich family life, managed through meticulous organization with her husband, helping her balance school with family responsibilities.
Johnson’s commitment extended beyond graduation. She continued her engagement with the Trojan community as a Marshall Alumni Ambassador and member of the USC Black Alumni Association Advisory Council, helping prospective MBA students navigate their doubts and build their networks.
Her story is not just about achieving personal success but also about fostering a community that uplifts everyone involved. Johnson’s journey underscores the importance of perseverance, community engagement, and the support of family in achieving one’s educational and professional goals.
