Sandy Robertson, BBA ’53, MBA ’54: A Lasting Legacy at Ross and Beyond

Sanford “Sandy” Robertson, BBA ’53, MBA ’54, a visionary in banking and technology, passed away at the age of 93 on August 3. A co-founder of Francisco Partners and founder of Robertson, Stephens & Company, Robertson was instrumental in financing over 500 growth technology companies, including industry giants like Dell and Sun Microsystems.

Beyond his remarkable business achievements, Robertson was a dedicated philanthropist, donating $18.8 million to the University of Michigan, with $10 million directed to Michigan Ross. His contributions have left a lasting impact on the Ross School of Business, evident in the Robertson Auditorium, scholarships, and other key initiatives.

Robertson also served on numerous boards and advisory committees, contributing his expertise and passion for education. His legacy at Ross and the broader business community will continue to inspire future generations of entrepreneurs and leaders.
