The Reconciling Business Schools: Co-creating an Indigenous Ivey Workshop for Indigenous and Allied Learners was a groundbreaking five-day workshop held at the Ivey Business School. Bringing together Indigenous scholars, community leaders, Ivey faculty, and students, the event aimed to foster mutual learning by sharing Indigenous and Western worldviews, with a focus on creating practical pathways to address the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action.
The workshop featured Indigenous-led ceremonies and discussions on key topics such as Indigenous entrepreneurship, governance, and land-based learning. Funded by multiple organizations, it was co-organized by Indigenous leaders and Ivey professors to decolonize the curriculum and create a welcoming space for Indigenous learners. Participants expressed that the experience was transformative, helping to bridge Indigenous and non-Indigenous perspectives and laying the groundwork for future collaboration.
Central to the initiative was the concept of “Two-Eyed Seeing,” which encourages integrating both Indigenous and Western perspectives. Reflections from attendees highlighted the emotional and intellectual depth of the experience, emphasizing the importance of collaboration in moving towards reconciliation and building a more inclusive future at Ivey and beyond.
