Internship Spotlight: Austin Cai ’25, 53 Stations

Austin Cai, a Yale SOM MBA student, spent his summer interning at 53 Stations, a venture capital firm in Chicago. He shares insights from his experience, highlighting the importance of persistence in breaking into the VC industry. Cai utilized his classroom knowledge in venture capital, private equity, and negotiation during his internship, where he worked on sourcing deals, conducting due diligence, and enhancing the firm’s AI tech stack.

Cai chose 53 Stations for its “student mindset” approach and the autonomy offered by the firm’s small size. Throughout the internship, he gained valuable experience by engaging in financial modeling, investment committee presentations, and founder calls. His experience underscored the importance of continuous learning and the supportive culture at the firm. Cai advises aspiring VC professionals to leverage networks, start early, and fully commit to the process.
