Addressing Inequities in Education: Amal Tariq (MBA 2025) and Her Summer Fellowship

Amal Tariq, an HBS MBA 2025 candidate, is spending her summer working with City Fund in Washington, D.C. through the Education Pioneers fellowship. City Fund collaborates with local leaders across the U.S. to develop innovative public school systems aimed at moving children out of poverty and into successful adult lives. Amal’s role involves evaluating ways to better support City Fund’s nonprofit partners by improving knowledge sharing and identifying areas for additional guidance.

Amal chose this internship because of her passion for education as a tool for social change and her desire to address systemic inequities in education. She values the opportunity to learn from and contribute to public education advancements, as well as the supportive community fostered by the Education Pioneers fellowship.

Her goals for the summer included deepening her understanding of the education sector, exploring how her strengths could address public education challenges, and clarifying her career aspirations within the education landscape. Amal credits her HBS training, particularly the Data Science for Managers course, with equipping her to effectively tackle complex problems and leverage data in her work.

This experience has reinforced Amal’s commitment to advancing equity in education, understanding the complex interactions within public education, and pursuing a career focused on breaking the cycle of poverty through educational reform.
