Teresa Gomes, a Full-Time MBA student, shares her experience at the MBA Tournament (MBAT) at HEC Paris, an event that unites MBA candidates from top business schools across Europe.
Hosted annually at HEC Paris, the MBAT celebrates sportsmanship, diversity, and friendly competition. This year, Imperial’s MBA cohort participated for the first time.
“The experience was about much more than just winning medals,” Teresa reflects. “Our Imperial candidates showcased their skills, determination, and teamwork in every event.”
With over 100 events, including physical sports, e-sports, cultural showcases, and intellectual challenges, MBAT offers something for everyone. Imperial’s cohort competed against athletes and artists from prestigious institutions like London Business School and Oxford Said Business School.
The journey began with a Eurostar train ride to Paris, where students explored landmarks like the Eiffel Tower. Upon arriving at HEC Paris, they registered and downloaded the MBAT app for schedules and networking.
“The best part about MBAT was its celebration of diversity and inclusivity,” Teresa says. Students participated in the PRIDE parade, supporting the LGBTQ+ community.
After three days, Team Imperial won events like Mahjong and Paintball. The top three schools were London Business School, HEC Paris, and Oxford Said Business School. The event ended with a masquerade ball at La Felicita in Paris.
Reflecting on the experience, Teresa notes, “True victory lies in pushing ourselves, embracing challenges, and cultivating lasting connections with peers from around the world.”
MBAT reminded participants of the importance of balance, perseverance, and cultural exchange. Teresa is grateful to Imperial College Business School for the opportunity and looks forward to inspiring future cohorts to embrace the spirit of friendly competition and global camaraderie.
