Shaping the Future of Cybersecurity: The Kellogg JD-MBA Graduates at Axio

The Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University is renowned not just for its academic rigor but also for the strong, lifelong connections it fosters among its students. This is exemplified by the founders of Axio, a thriving SaaS startup specializing in cybersecurity, founded by Scott Kannry ’11 JD, MBA and supported by fellow alumni.

Each year, approximately 25 students graduate from Kellogg’s JD-MBA Program, designed to integrate the disciplines of business and law. Graduates often maintain close relationships, leading to collaborative opportunities that extend well beyond their schooling years.

Scott Kannry, the CEO of Axio, along with COO Daniel Hirt and Director of Business Development Sam Skinner—both fellow JD-MBA alumni—exemplify the power of these connections. Together, they’ve grown Axio into a significant player in the cybersecurity space, employing over 50 people and influencing the industry’s approach to cyber risk management.

Axio’s mission is to equip organizations to effectively manage cybersecurity risks, likening the approach to fire risk management where prevention, management, and recovery are all crucial. They provide a comprehensive platform to assess, quantify, and manage cyber risk, helping CEOs and boards integrate cybersecurity into their corporate governance.

The Kellogg and Northwestern networks have played a crucial role in Axio’s journey, from funding through alumni investments to ongoing business and legal support. Alumni interactions are characterized by a genuine willingness to assist rather than transactional relationships, enhancing the community’s strength.

Moreover, the Axio team remains actively involved with Kellogg, sharing insights and experiences to guide current students, demonstrating the profound and reciprocal benefits of the Kellogg community network.

As Axio continues to expand and serve global clients—including prominent financial institutions and utilities—the foundational principles learned at Kellogg remain at the core of their operations, underscoring the importance of diverse perspectives and teamwork in driving success.
