Navigating Socioeconomic Diversity at London Business School: A First-Generation Student’s Perspective

Embarking on a journey at London Business School (LBS) as a student from a less affluent background can be daunting, with concerns about affordability and fitting into the school’s culture. However, my experience at LBS as a Masters in Financial Analysis student has been transformative and inclusive, dispelling my initial apprehensions.

Affordability: LBS offers a robust scholarship program that significantly eases financial burdens. Each year, 15-25% of students receive scholarships. I was fortunate to receive the LBS Bursary Funds scholarship, a needs-based award that reduced my need to work part-time, allowing more time for extracurricular engagement.

Cultural Integration: The presence of the First Generation, Low, or Intermediate Income (FLII) in Business Club at LBS highlights the school’s commitment to socioeconomic diversity. This club not only facilitates interactions among students with similar backgrounds but also works actively to integrate FLII students into wider school activities through partnerships, offering subsidized event tickets.

As I conclude my time at LBS, the benefits of this journey are clear. The diverse environment and the extensive alumni network have enriched my understanding of the finance industry and provided me with valuable global connections that will support my career ambitions. Joining LBS, a school that supports socioeconomic diversity and offers substantial financial aid, has indeed been one of my best decisions.
