For the 20th consecutive year, McMaster University has secured a place among the world’s top 100 universities in the esteemed Shanghai Rankings. In the latest Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU), McMaster proudly stood at the 98th position globally and ranked 5th in Canada.
McMaster’s consistent success in these rankings is attributed to the remarkable achievements of its faculty members, which include Nobel Prize laureates, highly cited researchers acknowledged by Clarivate, and a broad spectrum of publications and citations spanning the fields of science and social sciences.
The ARWU assesses over 2,500 universities worldwide using six objective criteria, which include the number of Nobel Prize and Fields Medal recipients among alumni and faculty, the presence of Clarivate highly cited researchers, publications in renowned journals like Nature and Science, articles indexed in Science Citation Index Expanded™ and Social Sciences Citation Index™ in the Web of Science™, and the university’s per capita performance.
Within the Canadian landscape, McMaster stands out, securing the 2nd position in both the areas of Quality of Education and Awards. These categories evaluate the number of alumni who have received Nobel Prizes and Fields Medals. Additionally, McMaster ranks 4th in Canada in the category of Highly Cited Researchers.
Beyond its overall rankings, McMaster University has consistently earned recognition in various fields of study. For instance, its clinical medicine program was listed among the world’s top 50 programs and ranked 2nd in Canada in last year’s Global Ranking of Academic Subjects. Stay tuned for this year’s subject-based rankings, set to be unveiled on October 27th.
