The Marshall School of Business has instituted several new awards for faculty demonstrating excellence in teaching, in a drive to continue providing top-tier business education. The initiative, set to launch in the 2022-2023 academic year, includes both honors and monetary awards for teaching staff.
Faculty were chosen for their innovation, creativity, commitment to teaching excellence, and ability to integrate research and contemporary industry practices into their courses. Evaluation was based on student course feedback, departmental recommendations, the magnitude of student impact, and the introduction of innovative courses and course designs.
Among the awardees, Smrity Randhawa, a Professor of Clinical Accounting, received the Evan C. Thompson Teaching & Learning Innovation Award. The recipients of Marshall Teaching Excellence Awards were Professors Murat Bayiz, Chris Bresnahan, Kevin Fields, Kristen Jaconi, Stephen Lind, Emily Nix, Michael Paranal, Julia Plotts, Paat Rusmevichientong, Sivaramakrishman Siddarth, and Associate Professor Leigh Tost.
A part of this initiative also involved the creation of several endowed teaching chair positions, seen as lifetime achievement awards. The recipients of these Chairs in Teaching Excellence were Peter Cardon, Becky Heino, Patricia Mills, Dawn Porter, and Dan Wadhvani.
These steps highlight Marshall’s commitment to recognizing the importance of teaching excellence and its role in shaping future business leaders.
